Patrons of The Events Centre can now enjoy a better, more comfortable theatre-going experience with the completion of the Playhouse Theatre’s $665,000 facelift.
The redevelopment was completed at the end of November with the Playhouse Theatre now having better disability access, a new sound system, new carpet, a new orchestra pit, new ceilings, walls and floor and more modern, comfortable seating.
The revamp of the Playhouse Theatre will play an important role in The Events Centre’s ability to attract performance acts, as well as to attract more conference and corporate events.
The redevelopment comes after The Events Centre and Sunshine Coast Council successfully applied for funding from the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program last year.
The Playhouse Theatre, the smaller and more intimate of the two theatres in The Events Centre, has been serving the needs of patrons for 35 years.
The Events Centre Chairman, Cr Tim Dwyer, welcomed the project.
“Council recognises the role the completed project will play in supporting the region’s creative arts industry and enhancing the experience for patrons of the arts,” Cr Dwyer said.
Cr Dwyer said the upgrade will generate a broad range of economic, employment, cultural and community benefits, as well as a sustainable business model for facility operations.
The Playhouse Theatre is the only professionally operated facility on the Sunshine Coast with a dedicated theatrical fly-tower, orchestra pit and fixed raked seating.
The Events Centre has just released its entertainment program for the beginning of 2017. The program is available at www.theeventscentre.com.au.
