Kitchen Hand/Cook

Casual

We’re looking for a Kitchen Hand/Cook to support our kitchen operations with a focus on high-quality food preparation and presentation. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow in a dynamic environment. In particular you will be preparing food for our daily café operation that operates Monday to Friday.

Hours

The role offers flexible hours a week and we are looking for individuals who can work both day and night shifts. As we have a busy events schedule there is an opportunity to work additional hours and you will need to be flexible with your availability.

Duties:

  • Assist with food prep, cooking, and presentation according to our standards.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized, including dishwashing, cleaning, and equipment storage.
  • Adhere to food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Learn various cooking techniques under the guidance of our senior chefs.
  • Help with inventory management and kitchen support tasks.

Requirements:

  • Certificate of Education or equivalent; culinary training is a plus.
  • Basic cooking knowledge
  • A current Qld food safety certificate.
  • Strong interest in a culinary career and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
  • Good communication skills and flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Food & Beverage Supervisor

Responsibilities
As our Food & Beverage Supervisor, you’ll be the go-to person for making sure all our catering and event services run smoothly. You’ll ensure top-notch quality while creating unforgettable experiences for our guests.

Hours
The role offers flexible hours and is dependent on events happening at the centre.  We are looking for individuals who can work flexible shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and both daytime and evening hours.

Your main duties will include:

  • Supervising teams of up to 20 staff.
  • Assisting with cash handling and maintaining accurate transaction records.
  • Helping with stock checks, policy updates, and staff training.
  • Setting up and packing down venue spaces for events.
  • Support event debriefs and contribute to team growth.
  • Keep everyone safe and aligned with our health and safety standards.

Requirements:

  • Experience supervising in events and hospitality.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in bar work and cash handling.
  • Ability to carry plates in a banquet environment.
  • Availability to work flexible shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and both daytime and evening hours.
  • Barista experience is highly desirable.
  • Current Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate.
  • Responsible Management of Licensed Venues accreditation (a bonus).

Apprentice Chef – Second Year

Are you passionate about food and looking to further your culinary skills? The Events Centre, the Sunshine Coast’s premier performing arts venue, is seeking a motivated Second Year Apprentice Chef to join our dedicated team.

About Us
The Events Centre is at the heart of the Sunshine Coast’s cultural and entertainment landscape. We host a variety of events, from performing arts to community gatherings, and take pride in delivering outstanding experiences for our patrons and clients. Owned by the Sunshine Coast Council and operated independently, we are a values-driven organisation that fosters a positive and aligned team culture.

The Role
As a Second Year Apprentice Chef, you will work under the supervision of our experienced Head Chef and culinary team to develop your skills and contribute to the smooth operation of our kitchen. You will play a key role in preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality dishes while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes in line with standards and recipes.
  • Support kitchen operations, including mise en place, plating, and cleaning duties.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of work areas, including proper storage of ingredients and equipment.
  • Follow food safety and hygiene regulations to ensure a safe kitchen environment.
  • Learn and apply various cooking techniques under the guidance of senior chefs.
  • Participate in inventory management and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
  • Commit to attending TAFE courses and completing required coursework.

Volunteer at The Events Centre, Caloundra to support our creative and business endeavours, providing exceptional services and experiences to the local community. Join us to learn new skills, meet new people, enjoy new experiences and gain insight into how The Events Centre operates.

As a volunteer you can become a front of house usher, help with food and beverage services, lend a hand as a meet and greet team member or immerse yourself in the fine arts from world-class music and arts performances to local productions, school performances, graduations, conferences and more.
