HILARIOUS | THEATRICAL | RIDICULOUS

Join us for a party with a story!

This explosive and hilarious work uses a cast of faux-French performers to create a joyful, interactive celebration. Theatrical magic, wicked pop songs and fierce wit is combined to create a delightful romp through this classic twisted tale.

When Paris is born, it is prophesied that he will bring the destruction of the city. To avoid this fate, he is sent away to be sacrificed. But this starts a series of events that will inevitably lead to the destiny his parents were so desperately trying to avoid.

The Trojan War tells the story of the tragic fall of Troy. It’s a raucous celebration of our ridiculous lives, using this classic tale of gods and heroes to playfully explore questions around the current chaos of our times.

Created and performed by A Slightly Isolated Dog, this New Zealand theatre company delivers a frantic and hilarious mash-up in the style of Monty Python meets The Mighty Boosh.

“…legendary storytelling riddled with witty anachronisms, audience interaction and entirely voluntary participation, immediate love stories juxtaposed with the mythologised ones, wacky props and costumes, mind-bending metaphysics, fabulous physicality, sublime singing and superb sound effects.”’

John Smythe, Theatre Review

ABOUT A SLIGHTLY ISOLATED DOG

Since the company began the ethos has been to create theatre that doesn’t feel like “theatre.” A Slightly Isolated Dog (ASID)’s overall artistic vision focuses on evolving the form of theatre to engage the ever-evolving needs of audiences in new and unique ways.

All works aim to create a space for communal reflection and celebration through live performance. But ASID aim to more directly and intimately include the audience in that process of reflecting and celebrating.

Thus, ASID build more profound relationships with our audience by creating high quality works that fill needed purposes in innovative, unique and (they always must be) entertaining ways.

ASID works exist on a spectrum, from highly explosive to extremely intimate and thoughtful experiences. Some pieces have broader commercial appeal while others speak to a more distinct audience. ASID shows are inclusive experiences where audiences actively contribute to the live action as it develops.
